Journée Agile 2024

David and Sylvain have been speakers at the famous “Journée Agile 2024” in Nivelles, their talk was a connection between Lean and Scrum.

During the conference, insightful links were drawn between Lean principles and the Scrum framework, illustrating how Lean concepts can enhance the effectiveness of Scrum teams. Topics included the Voice of the Customer, emphasizing the importance of aligning product development with real customer needs, and Gemba, encouraging teams to go to the source of issues and understand problems firsthand. They discussed common forms of waste that Scrum teams face, such as waste in the product backlog, inefficient meetings, delays in releases, and even overproduction of features. Intriguingly, Scrum itself was explored as a potential source of waste if not applied thoughtfully.

The session introduced Poka-Yoke as a method for error-proofing processes, helping teams prevent mistakes before they happen. Attendees also learned about Six Thinking Hats for structured decision-making and the Ishikawa (Fishbone) diagram for root cause analysis, both valuable tools for tackling complex issues in Agile environments.

The emphasis on empiricism and the mantra of “I think => The Datas are telling” encouraged teams to make evidence-based decisions, prioritizing facts over assumptions.
